Along the levada trails you are able to explore magical laurel forests, fascinating valleys and wild gorges, which leads you to impressive waterfalls.
But what are levadas?
Levadas are irrigation canals, built in the fifteenths century, to carry the water from the rainy north to the sunny south side of the island. Nowadays levadas provide access to Madeiras untouched nature to give unique experiences to all nature lovers.
In total you can find approximate 2500km levadas on the whole island in different altitudes and and levels of difficulty. Wether easy walks for beginners or walks for hiking lovers, we will find the perfect hike for you!
One of the most famous levada walk of Madeira is located in the nature reserve Rabaçal. Pure nature is waiting for you: Spectacular views into the valley, unspoilt laurel trees, 25 fountains and the biggest Risco waterfall.
