Calhau da Lapa has some of the clearest waters in Madeira, yet it is a quite place only visited by locals. Located in Campánario this beach is accessible by feet or by boat. Either you decide to follow the difficult paths or you take the boat from Ribeira Brava to enjoy the crystal clear water in peace of mind.
Everyone knows Cabo Girão, but have you ever heard of Fãja dos Padres? It is located at the foot of the right side of Cabo Girão and accessible by boat or cable car (Quinta Grande lift, ). Follow the orchards of mangos, avocado pears, all the way through the banana trees and go along the seaside path until you find a crystal clear beach.
Levada Nova – Ponta do Sol
If you are looking for ocean view, steep cliffs and a beautiful waterfall, you should visit the viewpoint of Garganta Funda. It is located in Ponta do Pargo on the west side of Madeira and easy to find by car. Or visit the lighthouse of Ponta do Pargo and go on a nice walk with views of villages on cliffs and on the ocean for about one kilometer to “Miradouro Garganta Funda”.
Achadas da Cruz cable car (open everyday between 08:00 – 12:00h and 13:00 -18:00h ) brings you to one of the most unique places in Madeira, that most of the tourists never see. Fajã da Quebrada Nova is nestled between green high cliffs and the wild blue ocean and is definitly a place you must see while being in Madeira, if you like spots off the beaten path. Furthermore in this hidden gem you will be able to find land cultivated with local produce.
